Thousands of customers using EE and BT services across the UK faced widespread disruptions recently, with many unable to make or receive calls on both mobile phones and landlines.
According to Downdetector — a popular outage tracking website that collects user reports — over 2,500 EE customers experienced network issues around 2 PM BST. Reports also indicated similar problems affecting BT customers, as the two networks are linked.
Some users even faced difficulties trying to make emergency 999 calls, though government officials confirmed these issues have since been resolved.
A BT spokesperson acknowledged the problem, apologizing for the inconvenience and stating, “We are urgently working to resolve the issue affecting our services and will provide updates as soon as possible.”

Earlier today, customers of EE and BT faced major network issues that affected their ability to make regular calls — including the critical emergency 999 calls.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services alerted the public on social media about a fault impacting mobile phone networks and 999 emergency calls. Fortunately, by 3:01 PM BST, the service was restored, with the South Western Ambulance Service also confirming the problem had been fixed.
The UK’s Department of Science, Innovation and Technology confirmed that the outage affected some customers trying to make or receive calls between EE and other networks. They assured that EE and BT’s digital voice calls to 999 are now back to normal.
